Today I had one of those ridiculous days where the whole universe conspired to remind me of the one thing I wanted to forget. Then again the chances of this occurrence probably jumps pretty high when you patronize stores that sell music and movies. Especially movies, for me. When it comes to recalling who I saw what with and when and where we saw what, I hella remember.
Anyway. My brother the budding hobbyist drummer-guitarist hyphenate (he’s twelve) was desperate to visit the Guitar Center in the Pleasant Hill/Concord area. My mom and I killed time at the Rasputin next door (thus all the damn movies), and when it was time to pick up my brother this video was what was playing on the TVs. I was spellbound.
Unfortunately, some asshat with a mid-life crisis in the aisle behind me had the volume on his amp up in a way that suggested compensation for something else he couldn’t get up, so I didn’t even get to hear the whole song. I had to Google it, having never heard of Robert Cray before.
But here it is. This was how my heart sounded earlier today.

Time will heal your troubles
when you got the blues.
Heal the burnin’ heartache,
but you’re right back in the groove.
But time will take its toll on you
if you don’t play it smart …
—Robert Cray, “Time Takes Two”
